Istitutional Partner

Assarmatori, a shipowners’ association that is a member of Conftrasporto-Confcommercio, represents shipowners from Italy, the European Union and third countries who operate regular maritime services in Italy. Also joining the association, which has offices in Rome, Genoa and Brussels, as aggregate members are other nonshipowning companies and entities that nonetheless move within the perimeter of the maritime system. Assarmatori, chaired by Stefano Messina, is thus a qualified and increasingly broad representation of shipping.

Assiterminal, Associazione Italiana Terminalisti Portuali, is the main associative expression of the port industry in Italy. We promote the development of terminal and port operators within the framework of a policy that enhances the national logistics system in a context of globalized dynamics involving the flow of people and goods. Our mission is to enhance the sustainability of our companies integrated into the logistics ecosystem which represents one of the main drivers of the economy and labor for Italy.

The Italian Ports Association is joined by the Port System Authorities, the Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Handicrafts and Agriculture insisting on the territories where ports exist and the Italian Union of Chambers of Commerce I.A.A. In light of the new governance system, the 57 ports of national importance will be coordinated by 16 Port System Authorities, which are entrusted with a strategic role of guiding, planning and coordinating the system of ports in their area. Assoporti offers the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the other ministries involved and the European Union every useful consultation and contribution on port issues, highlighting in the various national and international forums and occasions the role and importance for the Italian and EU economy of our ports.

The Italian Academy of the Merchant Navy is an institution that awards degrees from the Ministry of Education in the field of non-university tertiary education. The “mission” of the Academy is to provide specialized training targeted toward occupations with high professional and technological content, based on the needs of enterprises in the relevant sectors and particularly in the strategic areas of maritime and logistics.

CONFITARMA – Confederazione Italiana Armatori is the main associative expression of the Italian shipping industry. For 122 years it has been grouping and representing, in its relations with institutions and in the main national, EU and international fora, Italian shipping companies and shipowning groups operating in all sectors of cargo and passenger transport, cruises and auxiliary services to traffic. It also counts among its members important non-shipowning industrial and associative entities that are part of the Italian maritime cluster. It adheres to Confindustria and is among the founders of the Federation of the Sea and the Italian Institute of Navigation. In the international arena it is a member of ECSA and ICS, as well as BIMCO, INTERTANKO, INTERCARGO, IMEC and collaborates with ILO and IMO.

The Italian Federation of Port Pilots was officially born on March 20, 1947. In the hall of the Library of the Ministry of the Merchant Navy, the National Assembly resolved to establish the Italian Federation among the Port Pilot Corps by electing a Board of Directors and the first President of the Federation in the person of Commander Cesare Rosasco, M.O. for military valor and Chief Pilot of the Port of Genoa. Since then the Federation has been looking after the ethical, moral and economic interests of the category of Italian Pilots and the 32 Pilot Corporations into which they are divided throughout Italy. The Piloti del porto, currently 220 in Fedepiloti, are highly qualified professionals whose task is to assist in the maneuvering of ships as they enter and leave port in the safest and most efficient manner possible. Italy’s Port Pilots perform about 330,000 maneuvers each year, and their main function is to ensure safety within port areas by working alongside ship masters and providing them with their ship maneuvering know-how and port knowledge. The pilot also plays a very important role as an interface between the ship and the maritime authority. Pilotage service is a public service that is provided by pilots 365 days a year H24 and in all weather conditions.

Fedespedi (Italian Federation of International Freight Forwarding Companies) has been the only business organisation in Italy protecting the interests of international forwarding companies since 1946. The freight forwarding industry gives a key contribution to the Italian logistics industry with a turnover of 33 billion euros per year (2022) and a 2.5% share of the country’s GDP.

Fedespedi, founded on 11 June 1946, has its headquarters in Milan and associates more than 1,600 companies (4,700 local units) employing 60,000 people and is part of a vast association network: at national level it is a member of Confetra (Italian General Confederation of Transport and Logistics) and represents international forwarding companies operating in Italy in CLECAT at European level and in FIATA at world level. Fedespedi includes ANAMA (National Association of Air Cargo Agents), ANTEP (National Association of Port Terminal Operators) and FISI (Italian Federation of Industrial Forwarders). The Federation is present across the country through its network of 30 Local Associations.

The Consulate General of Panama in Naples is a representation of the Government of Panama strategically located in the Mediterranean Sea to offer all maritime services on behalf of the Panama Maritime Authority, with a staff with more than 20 years of experience. The Panama Maritime Authority is an autonomous entity of the Panamanian state. The main advantages of the Panama Registry: Government Security, Legal and Financial Certainty. Registry of Ships No 1 in the World, established since 1917, the Panamanian registry has 8,606 ships, representing over 247.7 million tons of TRBs, according to the international platform IHS Markit. In addition, Panama accounts for 15 percent of the world’s tonnage, as noted in the “World Fleet Monitor” report released in late June 2024 by Clarkson Research. Panama is part of the “White List of the Paris MOU”/“Tokyo MOU” and has been reelected to Category A “IMO Council Member” status. Worldwide coverage through 53 Private Merchant Marine Consulates.

The administrative structure of the company has undergone many changes over its long history; from a simple family organization it has slowly moved into an extensive organization, more suitable for a company of big dimensions with the objective to carry out with efficiency the service assigned by the Maritime Authority or demanded from the charterers. Until 31 January 1995 the company based its administrative structure on articles of a statute dated 29 June 1975 and, in the form of S.N.C., operated under the name of  “Rimorchiatori Napoletani S.M. di Armando de Domenico Presidente Pro-Tempore & C. S.n.c.”. To make more competitive and efficient its action in sectors other than the port trailer RN has equipped itself with specific corporate instruments by forming two new operating units: in 1996 the Portosalvo Ltd (based in London and operating offices at GulfMark UK Ltd of Aberdeen) to which it entrusted the support activities to the offshore oil & gas market and in 1999 Rimorchiatori Meridionali, mainly dedicated to towing-transport and currently in a non-operational phase due to the low activity of the sector. In its process of development from a company of people to a modern financial and operating group, with 183 members, RN has been led since 1977 for over 20 years by Ing. Armando de Domenico and, after his death in September 1998, by his son Ing. Gianni Andrea de Domenico who took over the presidency of a Board of Directors composed of thirteen members, many of whom are directly involved in the technical and operational management of the company. The current workforce of the RN is composed of approximately 130 people between marine and employed ones of Italian nationality to which are added the resources, mainly of British nationality, employed in the activity of subsidiary Portosalvo Ltd.

USCLAC-UNCDIM-SMACD (Unione Sindacale Capitani Lungo Corso al Comando / Unione Nazionale Capitani Direttori di Macchina / Stato Maggiore Abilitato al Comando o alla Direzione di Macchina) is the seafarers’ union representing more than 600 members nationwide, mainly senior figures on board, such as captains, engine directors and more generally officers, but not only. The union, which was founded by seafarers in Genoa in 1967, also has an office in Viareggio, a section dedicated to yachting, is associated with FEDERMANAGER and CESMA-Confederation of European Shipmasters’ Associations, and, through CASCODI – Cassa Assistenza Comandanti e Direttori di Macchina (Shipmasters’ and Engineers’ Assistance Fund), has been a partner of Shipping Week for several editions.
